Holga Slap

I decided to take to Holga out for a session in Sullivans Cove on market day (Saturday) to do some preliminary photos for the upcoming Osmosis Exhibition in October.

Then disaster struck.

The Holga plastic camera needs a bit of preparation before taking photos as the plastic case is really not light sealed. So I use black tape all around the camera to keep the light out, but this time when I put the tape along the bottom of the case I managed to miss the whole join….ho hum.

Light leaks can be beautiful – a gentle shaft of light for instance streaming into the image. Mine however, was a leak across the whole film frame, so a complete disaster. If I had realised and thought about it then the film development process could have been adjusted to a shorter time to try to pull more information out, but really the film is a right off.

The image above is the only one which had any decent detail, having been taken in the shade. I kind of like its softness and not quite there appearance, so it hasn’t hit the rubbish bin as yet. It may just fit my Osmosis theme to a tee.
